Sharpe ratio assumes a .5% risk free rate of return. All portfolio statistics are January 1, 1998 through June 30, 2009 assuming either buying and holding the Russell 3000 index or timing in and out of the Russell 3000 index to cash.
This trend following system’s annual return of 9.73% has trounced the 6.50% return of the pure “buy and hold” strategy of the Russell 3000 Index with dividends reinvested over the same period.
Additionally, the system’s volatility of return is much lower than just buying and holding the index (11% vs. 18% for the Russell 3000 index).
